ABSTRACT

This project work is titled “The Effect of Automated Accounting on Tax Compliance in Nigeria” using Brits Nigeria Plc as a study.

The objective of this study is to examine the issue of non-compliance among Nigerians, to identify defects in the existing tax laws with a view to enhancing effective Automated Accounting in Nigeria, to identify the problems and challenges facing Automated Accounting and system in Nigeria. The choice of this study was made because of its relevance and potential to the organisational development and economic development of Nigeria.

This study would be of immense benefits to organizations, bankers, human resource professionals, policy makers, researchers, students and consultants.

The study made use of primary data. It used a structured questionnaire to collect relevant data from 50 employees the company. It adopted simple random sampling technique. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentages and frequency distributions.

The study revealed that there are problems associated with Automated Accounting in Nigeria and Effective automated Accounting provides revenues for financing government expenditure; and that the causes of Automated Accounting  fraud in Nigeria include the non-accountability of revenue collected, the complexity of paying tax in Nigeria, the manual system of Automated Accounting, corruption and malpractices in the system.

 Also the research recommends that a special drive should be undertaken to arouse public consciousness on tax obligations by enlisting the co-operation of opinion leaders and traditional rulers in the various communities, cities and state
